What is Specified Skills (A brief review)
Specified skills areSpecific industrial sectors facing severe labor shortagesAnd it's a resident status that allows foreigners with certain skills and Japanese language proficiency to work.
- Specified Skills 1Employment is possible for a cumulative total of up to 5 years in the target field (as a general rule, dependents cannot accompany).
- Specified Skilled Worker (ii)Can be obtained upon meeting conditions such as passing an exam and having practical experience (no restrictions on residence period renewal, can bring family members).

2024 Additional 4 Fields: Detailed Explanation
Motor carrier industry
This is a new field targeting passenger and cargo transportation by vehicles such as buses, taxis, and trucks. It was added in response to the so-called "2024 Problem" (intensifying labor shortage due to stricter regulations on overtime work for drivers).
- Scope of businessBus driving, taxi driving, truck driving (freight transport), etc.
- Addition period and rationale: Promulgated on December 19, 2024 (Cabinet decision on March 29, 2024)

- Special notesA Japanese driver's license is required (international permits are not accepted; a conversion process is necessary).
Railroad
The scope includes railway track construction, facility maintenance, vehicle inspection, and passenger services. This is a response to aging infrastructure and labor shortages due to the declining birthrate.

③ 林業
木材の伐採・搬出・造林など山林管理に関わる業務が対象です。日本の山林は手入れ不足が深刻で、林業の担い手不足は農業・漁業と並ぶ課題です。

④ 木材産業
製材所での木材の製材・加工・建材製造などが対象です。林業で伐り出した木材を製品にする川下側の業種として、林業とセットで追加されました。

どの分野に就くか：確認の仕組み
特定技能で就労するためには、以下の2つの要件を満たす必要があります。
- 技能試験に合格する（各分野が指定する試験）または技能実習2号を修了している
- 日本語能力を証明する（日本語能力試験N4以上、または国際交流基金日本語基礎テスト合格）
各分野の試験は、国が指定する協議会または試験実施機関が実施します。試験の詳細は各分野の管轄省庁・協議会の公式サイトで確認してください。

よくある質問
Q1. 16分野以外の仕事でも特定技能は使えますか？
A. いいえ。特定技能は対象16分野に限定されます。それ以外の仕事をするには、技術・人文知識・国際業務などの別の在留資格が必要です。
Q2. 特定技能2号に移行できる分野は？
A. 2023年以降の拡充により、介護を除くすべての特定技能分野（全15分野。2024年に追加された4分野も含みます）で2号取得が可能になっています。介護が除外されているのは、すでに国家資格「介護福祉士」を取得することで永続的な就労が可能な在留資格「介護」が存在するため、法的な重複を避けるという意図があります。
Q3. 外食業の「飲食料品製造業」と「外食業」は何が違いますか？
A. Food and beverage manufacturing industryはスーパーやコンビニの弁当・惣菜を工場で大量製造する職種です。Restaurant industryはレストラン・飲食店でのホールや調理担当です。現場の仕事内容が異なります。どちらを希望するかで試験の種類も変わります。
Q4. 自動車運送業の特定技能でバスの運転手になれますか？
A. 対象業務に含まれますが、日本の二種免許（旅客輸送に必要）が別途必要です。免許取得プロセスを含む就労支援体制を整備した受入れ企業を通じて就労する形が一般的です。
